Our Very First Night in Maldives

As the sun fades slowly down the horizon, the island awakens in a flurry of glimmering lights...

One by one the lanterns flare as the fruit bats awaken to the smell of petrol slowly burning through the night. I have honestly never seen a more beautiful moon than in the Maldives. The Taj especially is stunning as night falls. For our first night, we had a lovely drink at the Bar with interesting company surrounded by flamed torches overlooking the horizon. With the crooning melody of "I'm Yours" echoing from the live band in the lower corner of the bar, the night was magical from the start.

Dinner was taken at the Deep End restaurant, a beautiful dining hut with a fabulous terrace overlooking the ocean. There was just something so romantic about the setting, with the stars softly twinkling above our head as we indulged in the scrumptious food. The wonderful Greg took us for a meal to remember, starting the meal with a delightful champagne and ending with a wonderful Sauv Blanc.

WINE RECOMMENDATION:

Section 94, Dog Point Vineyards, NZ

Now the white is a wine to remember. For all of you out there, if you ever have the luck to taste the Section 94 from the Dog Point Vineyard in NZ, you must have a sip. It has a wonderfully fragrant and flowery aroma, silky smooth texture and yet, is just mild enough to refrain from overpowering the taste of the dishes. I must say the dinner was truly an event to remember, never have I had such a wonderful candlelight meal. There is just something about the atmosphere that renders me completely speechless.

After the fabulous dinner that ended with two chocolate fondants and a creme brulee, we took a lovely moonlit walk along the pavilions of the hotel. I was completely amazed at how the moon was so bright out here in the islands. Having lived in a city all my life, I was used to bright lights overpowering the soft rays of the moon at every occasion. In the secluded islands of the Maldives, the moon shone bright and clear, lighting up our paths and revealing the depths of the crystal blue waters. Standing at the Yoga Pavilion, we managed to spot several Sting Rays in the lagoon below as well as some baby sharks. Sigh, what a wonderful end to an already magical night.

Maxi dress: Zara

Unfortunately, I only took a ridiculously small amount of photos that night, it just didn't seem necessary breaking the spell with the incessant flashing of my camera. These photos above were taken at the bar, right before the night started.

The restaurant + bar photos are all courtesy of the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in the Maldives

Here's to a magical night,
